HammondCare Greenwich Hospital offers small-group exercise programs to help prevent falls and maintain independence for patients. These Balance Groups are for clients who have undertaken a physiotherapy program at HammondCare Greenwich Hospital and require ongoing exercise to improve their strength and balance, decrease their risk of falls or become more confident in daily activities.
Clients are required to have a G.P. referral and be assessed by a Rehabilitation Specialist prior to attending the group.
What to expect
Our Balance Groups are suitable for a range of conditions and clients. Groups consist of 5-6 people and activities include a variety of strength and balance exercises.
The groups are run in our newly refurbished and state-of-the-art gym and use equipment such as parallel bars, balance foams and weights. Your physiotherapist will provide a challenging, evidence-based and enjoyable exercise experience.
The Balance Groups run for 12 weeks and are free of charge.
Maintenance Exercise Groups
Once you have completed the 12-week Balance Group you also have the option of attending a Maintenance Exercise Group.
These groups will help you maintain the strength and balance you attained in the Balance Groups. The goal is to help you remain independent, long-term.
Maintenance Exercise Groups are run by a physiotherapist and last for an hour. They involve a combination of strength and balance exercises. There can be up to 8 clients per group.
The cost is $10 per session or 10 sessions for $80. There is no limit on the number of classes you can attend.
