We do everything we can to make your time at Greenwich Hospital as comfortable as possible.
Grounds and gardens
HammondCare Greenwich Hospital is located on a beautiful site with extensive grounds and gardens. These are open to patients and visitors for use, and we encourage you to enjoy them.
The canteen, located centrally to the Palliative & Supportive Care Unit, is available for use by patients and their visitors. This includes free tea/coffee-making facilities.
There are also vending machines for snacks. Hot meals can be bought by relatives and friends between 12noon to 1.30pm and 5.00pm to 6.30pm. Just purchase your meal ticket from reception on the second floor.
Television, radio and telephones
Patients can bring a personal radio, CD or DVD player provided earphones are used. Televisions are provided in all rooms. Bedside telephones are provided. These allow incoming calls, to help family and friends to reach patients.
Our volunteers provide support, including talking to patients and relatives, arranging flowers and providing manicures. Volunteers can be contacted through staff on the unit.
The hospital’s chaplain is available to assist patients, their families and friends. A visitor from the Catholic Church calls regularly. A patient’s own priest, minister or rabbi is welcome to visit.
Interpreter services are available and are confidential. There are over 60 community languages, including Auslan sign language.
Dependent on medical and family considerations, arrangements can be made for short periods of leave from the hospital for an hour or two. Arrangements must be discussed with the unit staff.
